Stop countries having vetoe power at the Security Council of the UN!

The killings of civilians continues in Syria. The murderous regime of Bashar AL Assad and his cronies have murdered thousands of its citizens with the backing of the Chinese Communist who are also responsible for the tragedy in Tibet and the Russian government.

Today, once again, Russia and China vetoed a Western-backed U.N. Security Council resolution on Thursday that threatened Syrian authorities with sanctions if they did not stop using heavy weapons against an uprising and withdraw troops from towns and cities. It was the third time that Russia, a key ally of the Syrian government, and China have used their veto power to block UN Security Council resolutions designed to put pressure on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and halt the violence in the 16-month conflict that has killed thousands of people.

It is an absolute scandal that we see the killings live on TV and the world does nothing and allows two governments that are not democratic to vetoe a resolution that would at least bring some relief to the Syrian people. Both Hu Jintao and  Putin should be held responsible for the continuation of the violence and the increased number of deaths and the Syrian president and his government taken to the Hague for Crimes against Humanity.

  1. I’m sorry my friend,,, but the biggest scandal of all is the U.N.. The U.N. should be vetoed out of existence!! Should we discuss their Horrible Humanitarian Record throughout the years? Africa? Yugoslavia? Libya? The U.N. goes to Syria to facilitate the al-CIA-da & Mossad backed insurgents.

  2. The UN is a dysfunctional entity incapable of mediating succesfully in the conflicts that afflict our planet. This is in part because of the vetoe power of some nations at the Security Council, nations that on the other and are the main arm dealers.
We are seeing the violation of civil rights, abuse of power, torture, hunger, political murders, lies, injustice, corruption, incompetence and many more unspeakable things. Impunity is on the rise not only in far corners of the planet and in shameless dictatorships but also in our own back yard where supposedly leaders of governments of democratic countries avoid Universal Jurisdiction and the International Criminal Courts.
The time has come for Civil society to reclaim its place as the key protagonist on the international political stage before we reach the point of no return. we as humans all aim for the same thing: Happiness.
Let us achieve this through personal involvement, empathy and tolerance. As John Lennon once sung:”Give Peace a Chance!”

  3. I agree that the current structure of the security council is obsolete, but on this specific Syria issue I’m not sure if the vetoes would make much of a difference. I doubt Nato has any semblence of a plan to carry out action against the regime.

The only way the security council will be reformed is if another one is formed that supercedes it. That could be a while… 🙁

  4. One day history will judge the western governments and the United Nations for the crimes commited in Syria aganisnt the Syrian people by the criminal government of Assad. We intervened in Iran, in Afghanistan, in Lybi and other conflicts but somehow have failed to help the Syrian people. Assad is a war criminal and so are the members of his government. The opposition should be helped so that it is not hijacked by Muslim Radicals as has happened in other states after the Arab spring.
We cant just make nice speeches while yje Syrian people continue to me killed by their own rulers.
